Text description provided by the architects. Eau (read : ō), this word is come from French language means water. We named this building “Eau” because it was originally inspired by the character of the water, especially its waves and reflectivity of water. Waves that was created on the surface of the water is always never the same. In addition, water also reflect the objects from its surrounding so it become not dominant thing but has its own charm. Both of these points are very interesting and inspiring for our team to design the form of Eau Building. In the other hand, HMP Architects explored other character of water which can lower the temperature. So the design team applied it character to this building with cool color of reflective façade that can make a different facade among others.
Eau Building was designed to become an iconic building among others in Serpong area. This building was built to fulfill the function as a skin care clinic. The location of this building is very strategic which is on the crossroad of Serpong main street. HMP Architects utilize the possibility of its area to design a building that has a ‘supple’ form. HMP Architects designed this building with aim to break a row of buildings which has a similar based form. Eau Building appears to be different with it shape and the reflective façade make the building blend with it surrounding environment.
Eau building appears with feminine character which showed from its curve. The smoothness of its curve become a strong point for the façade. This building has a faceless façade because of it form. It has no sharp angle for façade. This building stand without showing any bold character.
HMP Architects designed a façade with dominant reflective glass to optimize the sunlight because this building is facing to the east. Before decided to use big reflective glass for its façade, the design team analyzed clinic’s habit which starts their optimum activities at 10 AM so the east side of this building is no longer has strong sunlight in the morning but still can give enough natural light. For the west side, HMP Architects designed a solid form to avoid the strong sunlight in the evening. Moreover, the solid form of this building also designed to facilitate utilities area to support all the clinic’s activities.
If we observe this building, we can see an open area as the terrace along the façade. The terrace is designed with aim to break the solid mass of this fourstorey building. In other hand, HMP Architects designed the terrace to facilitate outdoor space for clinic visitors, so they can enjoy the environment while waiting for clinic services.
Furthermore, the garden was created surround this building. The large garden especially the garden behind the building is used as an outdoor seating area for visitors who may enjoy the environment. A large basement area under the garden is also created to facilitate optimum parking area for visitors.
